Cure/dry time

Most silicone bathroom caulk needs about 24 hours to cure before regular shower use. Check the tube label.

Recommended materials/tools

  • 100% silicone: about 1 tube
  • Caulk remover, scraper, utility knife or blades, painter tape, rubbing alcohol or cleaner, gloves, paper towels, and smoothing tool
  • Caulk removal tool allowance included
  • Basic caulking tool allowance included

Basic DIY checklist

  • Remove loose or failed caulk before applying new caulk.
  • Clean the seam with bathroom-safe cleaner or rubbing alcohol.
  • Let seams dry completely before taping or applying new caulk.
  • Tape clean edges if you want a straighter bead.
  • Apply a steady bead, smooth it once, remove tape, and clean excess before it skins over.
  • Keep the area dry until the caulk has cured according to the product label.

When to call a pro

  • Call a pro if caulk failure keeps returning, water is getting behind tile, or seams move when pressed.
