Rough estimate only

This tool is for installing room trim and baseboards only. It may include baseboards, door casing, window casing, and optional crown molding. It does not include wall painting, flooring, cabinet work, electrical work, or full-room renovation. Real costs can change based on local prices, trim profile, room shape, wall and floor condition, tool needs, waste, and finish quality.

Measurement system

Room trim installation only

Estimate installing one room's baseboards, door casing, window casing, and optional crown molding. This does not include wall painting, flooring, cabinet work, electrical work, or full-room renovation.

This assumes a simple rectangular room. For irregular rooms, use the closest average length and width.

Door casing

Casing length is estimated as 2 x height + width for each door opening.

Window casing

Casing length is estimated as 2 x height + 2 x width for each window opening.

Project planning note

Review the selected options, site condition, material assumptions, and tool needs before buying supplies. This calculator is meant for rough DIY planning, not a professional quote.

Recommended materials/tools

  • Standard primed MDF/pine baseboards
  • Standard primed MDF/pine or matching casing for door and window openings
  • No crown molding included
  • Finish nails, construction adhesive, caulk, filler, sandpaper, and shims
  • Basic installation tool allowance: saw, nailer or hammer, level, tape, coping or miter tools
  • Paint-ready only

Basic DIY checklist

  • Measure the room perimeter and each door and window opening before buying material.
  • Buy about 10% to 15% extra trim for waste, bad cuts, and matching joints.
  • Confirm old trim does not need removal.
  • Cut and dry-fit baseboards first, then install door and window casing.
  • Skip crown molding for this estimate.
  • Caulk gaps, fill nail holes, sand touch-ups, and complete the selected finishing option.

When to call a pro

  • Call a pro if walls, floors, or corners are badly out of square, bowed, or damaged.

This is a rough DIY planning estimate for installing room trim and baseboards only. Finishing paint or stain is included only as a rough allowance, not a detailed painting estimate.
