Rough estimate only

This tool is for replacing one standard floor-mounted toilet in the same location only. It may include removing the old toilet, installing a new toilet, wax ring or seal, closet bolts, supply line, caulk, and basic supplies. It does not include moving plumbing, replacing the toilet flange, repairing subfloor, repairing flooring, fixing leaks inside the wall or floor, installing wall-hung toilets, bidet wiring, major plumbing work, or professional labor. Real costs can change based on local prices, toilet type, flange condition, floor condition, existing toilet condition, tool needs, and cleanup.

Measurement system

One standard toilet replacement

Estimate replacing one standard floor-mounted toilet in the same location only. This does not include moving plumbing, replacing the toilet flange, subfloor repair, flooring repair, wall-hung toilets, bidet wiring, major plumbing work, or professional labor.

This assumes the new toilet uses the existing drain and water supply location. Check rough-in size and clearances before buying a toilet.

Project planning note

Review the selected options, site condition, material assumptions, and tool needs before buying supplies. This calculator is meant for rough DIY planning, not a professional quote.

Leak-check note

After installation, run several test flushes and check around the base, tank bolts, shutoff valve, and supply line. Recheck again after about 30 to 60 minutes and after the first normal use.

Recommended materials/tools

  • Standard elongated toilet allowance
  • Wax ring or wax-free seal, closet bolts, caps, cleanup bags, rags, gloves, and basic install supplies
  • New toilet supply line included
  • Toilet seat assumed included with toilet
  • Bathroom caulk for the toilet base
  • No full flange replacement included
  • Basic plumbing tool allowance included

Basic DIY checklist

  • Confirm the replacement toilet rough-in and bowl shape fit the existing space.
  • Shut off the water, flush the toilet, and sponge out remaining tank and bowl water.
  • Disconnect the supply line, remove closet bolts, lift out the old toilet, and clean the flange area.
  • Inspect the flange and floor before installing the new wax ring or seal.
  • Set the toilet straight down, tighten bolts evenly, reconnect the supply line, and test flushes.
  • Caulk around the base after leak checks, leaving a small gap at the back if preferred.

When to call a pro

  • Call a pro if the toilet rocks after careful shimming or the flange does not seem secure.
  • Call a pro for wall-hung toilets, moved plumbing, leaks inside the wall or floor, bidet wiring, or major plumbing work.
